Foursquare Localization for Indonesia
It’s pretty cool that Foursquare is localized for Bahasa Indonesia, perhaps to compete with Koprol, a similar Indonesian clone startup that Yahoo acquired in 2010. Some thoughts on their website. Didn’t get a chance to try out the app in Bahasa, though.
Looks like they’re iterating on their translations, which is awesome. Just weeks ago ago I was reading their Bahasa Indonesia...

Quitting Smoking: 6 Things You Notice About the...
My co-worker just sent me this Cracked.com article. I’m so excited (and terrified) about quitting again. Third time’s a charm, right?
Here’s my favorite part, because it’s totally going to happen to me one day, on my way to work in rush hour traffic:
While I was on the highway, I smelled a whiff of smoke, my whole body seizing at the scent of it. I realized that the guy...

Happy holidays, friends. This year, I used an Asana project for my Christmas list. I thought I’d share — maybe others have used Asana for a similar purpose? Would love to see what other people have done.
1. People are tasks ;)
Each person on my holiday list is a task in the Asana project. The Notes section is great for listing gift ideas. I also used it to record mailing addresses...

Found this on Penn Olson. Not the most informative, pretty, or accurate (take a look at the Indonesian internet population projections.. someone missed a K)
But some fun facts:
65% of internet users access the internet from internet cafes
48 % from mobile phones (no surprise here)
19% from home

I get this email newsletter Notes from the Universe from www.tut.com — the Universe’s wisdom has been pretty hit or miss. Often leaving me thinking “Well, that was some hippie bullshit that made no sense whatsoever.”
But sometimes the email is eerily applicable to the most current manifestation of my mid-20s insecurities. Like this one:
It’s as if before you there...

instagram:
Today, we’re excited to announce the release of one of the largest revamps to the Instagram app since it launched nearly a year ago.
Since the day we launched, one core part of the app has remain largely unchanged: the camera. In the past, we’ve added filters & tilt-shift, but the base technology…

Every year at the end of Ramadan, my extended family takes advantage of the 1-week holiday to fly to China, rent a tour bus, fill it with the Salimin clan aged 2 to 80-something, and drive around the country, sampling nomz and sights from multiple cities. It’s become a rather epic tradition.
For the past 6 years I’ve missed this annual excursion because it usually happens in the...

If you want to learn to code and build stuff and you’re starting by asking someone else what you should do, you’re already thinking about it the wrong way. Immediately, right now, with no preparation, in the blink of an eye, you can take a huge step toward your goal by realizing that you don’t need an answer to your question. You can do it all by yourself. Everything you need is...

You will miss a ton, but that’s OK.
As many of my friends go on exciting adventures this year, this post was a lovely reminder to enjoy the slice of MY life in this moment in time:
You will miss a ton, but that’s OK. We’re so caught up in trying to do everything, experience all the essential things, not miss out on anything important … that we forget the simple fact that we cannot experience everything. That physical reality...
Remembering Papa
These are the moments, scents, and sounds from my daily routine that have eased me into remembering him. Each has triggered both a smile and uncontrollable tears that have helped me be OK with grief.
Most of these are centered on food, actually. We shared the same love for food and tendency to get crumbs all over ourselves.
I love you Pa. I think you knew that, but I wish I told you more often...
On grief and gratitude
Tonight something compelled me to search for “grief” in the Twittersphere. I came across this psychoterhapist’s blog post about the coexistence of grief and gratitude, and how the existence of one doesn’t necessarily have to erase the other. http://www.afterpsychotherapy.com/grief-and-gratitude
The ability to feel profound grief and gratitude, I believe, are the...

Thank you, Joseles, you wonderful roommate with awesome reading habits, you.
Your assumptions about the lives of others are in direct relation to your naïve pomposity. Many people you believe to be rich are not rich. Many people you think have it easy worked hard for what they got. Many people who seem to be gliding right along have suffered and are suffering. Many people who appear to you to be...
